Names

 

Gor is similar to BDSM in the way that names represent status:

- A Free Person (or Dominant) is represented by capping their name.
- A slave (or submissive) ire represented by a name in lower case.

There is no middle ground. The name you give yourself will immediately establish the type of treatment you receive in the House. If you take a Free Person's name, but act like a slave, you will soon find yourself treated like a Gorean slave. If you are a slave but act like a Free Person, you will be punished as a Gorean slave would be for such insolence.

Free:

Now in picking your name you need to keep a few things in mind. Those that are Free, you do not have to use titles as part of your name. Names like “Lord Max” or “Master Dark” are not needed. Being Free gives you your proper title. Slaves will address you as either Master, Jarl or Mistress and then your name as is the protocol of Gor.

 

slave:

As for those submissives/slaves… choose wisely. And remember that this is now Gor and things that one may be able to get away with in BDSM you cannot get away with in Gor. Their names begin with small case letters, such as "kyss", "vella" or "verna". They mark themselves as slaves, and are expected to act as such. If a slave wears a collar (or "kolar"), it will appear after their name, and will indicate the owner of the slave. Collars with {DS} indicate that the slave is owned by Dark Shadows. Other collars are designated by letters from the owner's name, such as {DW} or {KHA}. Thus, for example, if you see a Master with the name "Dark Wolf " and a slave named "kyss{DW}" one could easily assume that the slave kyss is belongs to Dark Wolf.

The use of Earth names, or overtly sexual names, is not encouraged.

Those using inappropriate names will find themselves kicked and banned should you attempt to re-enter with the same offending name.

 

Switching/Imping:
There is no switching in Gor. A person is either a slave or Free. Only you know truly which you are. Make your choice carefully. Anyone caught switching personalities back and forth from slave to Free will be banned from Dark Shadows. And do not assume that you will not be caught if you do. A Free Person can switch once to becoming a slave. But never again can they be Free. On Gor, a Free Person could be captured against their will. Here, you must decide to be a slave.
